
Tony C
Born Antonio H. Campbell in Philadelphia, Pa. to Jamaican Parents. At the age of 2 his parents moved the Cambria Heights section of Queens, New York. That's where Tony C. fell in love with radio. Tony C grew listening to popular Djs like Mr. Magic, Scott La Rock, Marley Marl, Red Alert, and radio stations WBLS, Kiss FM, and the Underground radio show "Radio Dis." Tony C also watch the rise to fame of Hometown rappers Run DMC, L.L. Cool J, Mc Shan, and other Queens Rappers. Tony C's most memorable Hip Hop experience is the notorious Queens vs South Bronx battles.
At the age of 10, Tony C's parents move the family to Orlando, Fl. in efforts to raise him and siblings in a better environment. Instantly, Tony C was fascinated but the difference in Down South Hip Hop when introduced, By neighbor and long time friend "DJ Sir Night Train." Sir Night Train, played 2 Live Crew's album for him and instantly Tony C. felt at home once he realized there is a hip hop scene in Florida.
Tony C. was also enlightened by the birth of a new radio station in Orlando 102 JAMZ, where he instantly became a fan of Bartell Bartell. Tony C attended Memorial Middle School where he was always known to be associated with music at some capacity. He'd always have music playing in the background when called by telephone. Also, he played Trombone for the Memorial Middle School band. After completing middle school, his parents moved the family to the Pine Hills area whre he attended Maynard Evans High School.
Tony C, was quickly know for his love a music and for Deejaying...He was responsible for numerous parties and participated in many area talent shows. He morphed from a glasses wearing, High top fade having individual to a very mild mannered, easy going ladies man. Throughout High school, he never lost the desire to DJ and his love for radio.
After graduating from Evans, Tony C. accepted a music scholarship to Savannah State University. His plan was to quickly find his way to working on the campus radio station. Though he wasn't successful, Tony C stumble upon his very first radio job at then start up radio station WSGF 103.9.
After numerous years in Savannah, Tony C. was forced to return home due to his father being diagnosed with lung cancer. Tony C. really thought that would be the end of his career and thought he'd have no chance outside of Savannah, so he decided to put more focus on family and education. After a 3 month battle with cancer, Tony C's father died.
The day after Tony C's father's death, Tony C's mother received a phone call from the program director of Orlando's 102 JAMZ. He called to offer Tony C a job. Tony C accepted and worked with 102 JAMZ from 1998 to 2003. After leaving 102 JAMZ Tony C worked with WMIB 103-5 THE BEAT IN MIAMI Then returned to Orlando with WPYO POWER 95.3 Where he demolished the competition for over 16 ratings period during a 4 year stand.
